Alaksandr Milinkevich’s initiative group collects signatures in the Minsk 109th Uruchcha sub-district constituency. On July 30, one of the three street pickets was located beside the Piershamayski supermarket, reports Radio Liberty.
Milinkevich joined the picket in the afternoon. He told the following about the aim of his participation in the election campaign:
“The main question is – What for? A boycott is absolutely unacceptable for me because this means working with Lukashenka, but I’m not interested in working with Lukashenka. You can’t work with people by way of boycotting. One should work with people like this – in pickets, visiting their homes, etc. More than half of people believe neither the opposition nor the authorities. Can we influence these people by way of a boycott? No, we can’t. Therefore, we should show them there’s a positive alternative. And that’s why, my primary objective is to show that there are leaders, individuals with experience, who want changes just like them.”
As the head of Alaksandr Milinkevich’s initiative group Yuras Mielashkievich reported, the activists have been collecting signatures in street pickets and during their visits to homes. The required one thousand signatures was collected within a week, but this work will continue daily till August 13.
